PERPETUAL SUCCESSION?

"Jaako Raakhey Saaiyaan, Maar Sakey Na Koye...

Baal Na Baaka Kar Sakega, Jo Jag Bairee Hoye"

Translation: "Whomsoever the lord keepeth in his care, no one shalt be able to harm him. Even if the whole world stood up against him, they would not be able to even bend his hair"

The Sage's words echoed in his head as Tarun walked towards his new workplace's building. He wasn't very spiritual, but sometimes when you're desperate for a break, you tend to seek the unknown. He walked through the lobby and stepped into the elevator which seemed to have been waiting for him.

Tarun Jha eyed the lift attendant in amazement. He was pretty amused at what he saw. The guy looked like a typical village simpleton – wafer-thin moustache, slender frame, paan-stained teeth et al. But the Mohawk hairdo seemed totally out of place. It was as odd as distemper paint on an ancient castle. Tarun Jha had seen weird things at his hostel in Pune where he was pursuing his engineering degree - boy-crazy roomies, Anne French in the men’s loo, Saas-Bahu serial adoring guys and the like. But this one beat them all. He chuckled to himself.

“Naam Kya Hai Aapka?”

“Myself Hanuman Prasad Jha, Bhelcome To Sai Yarn Sirjee. Yuarself Name Sirjee?”

Amused and a wee bit embarrassed that they shared surnames, he replied, “Tarun Jha. Nice meeting you”

Tarun had given a telephonic interview a week back. To his surprise, the interviewer, VP of the company, interestingly also a Jha – Ashok Jha – had selected him without even enquiring too much about his qualifications. He had been offered a pretty decent pay package. This was an offer he’d never want to refuse, especially after just scraping through the exams, with a gazillion ATKT’s along the way.

The attendant smiled as the lift car reached the last floor of the three-storeyed structure of M/s. Sai Yarn Co. Tarun thanked the attendant and walked out. But he wasn’t prepared for what lay ahead of him.

“What the…”

He now found himself in the midst of atleast fifty-odd executives and workers, all staring at him with curious eyes. What shocked him most was that all of them had Mohawk hairdos.

“You’re a Jha, right?” someone asked.

“He’s got to be a Jha man.“, said someone else.

The murmurs grew louder.

He stopped in his tracks and looked all around. Slowly gathering his wits, he walked straight ahead to where the VP had told him his cabin would be.

He knocked twice gently on the thick mahogany door and entered.

“Good Morning Sir, may I come in?”

Two sharp eyes took time off from a laptop screen. “Hey. Tarun Jha? Welcome Welcome! I’m Ashok. Come in, have a seat.”

The guy had really spiky hair. His mane stood up like a crop ready for harvest. Tarun couldn’t contain his curiosity.

He blurted out, “Sir, your staff has a really peculiar hairdo. You too have a spiked look. What is…”

“Oh, I used to have a Mohawk once upon a time. But a VP has to be different, no?” He smiled.

Tarun shrugged in confusion, “Erm..well yeah..I guess so. Well Sir. I’ve brought my resume and certificates for...”

Interrupting him, the VP asked in a deep baritone, “Have you met the others outside?”

“No…not yet Sir”

“Very well”, he said and pressed a switch on his table. :”I’ll do the needful”. He smiled.

In a matter of seconds the same fifty odd were in.

“Tarun, meet Nitin, Amit, Narendra, Surendra, Rajeev, Hasmukh, Sujit, Ramnaresh…all Jha’s.”

Tarun didn’t know how to react. Before he could respond, Ashok blabbered again.

“Here’s your offer letter. Sign it please.”

Tarun did as instructed.

At once he felt the hair on his head stand erect. He had barely collected his wits when big boss spoke again.

“Time for your induction. Ready?”

Before he could reply, a machete-wielding hand appeared under his chin, slit his throat, sawed through muscles and bones, and yanked off his head.

The head fell with a thud on its nose. “Ouch!!!”, it screamed in pain. It heard the others cheer and clap.

Mr Ashok bent down and picked it up. The head stared back at him with questions in its eyes.

“Sorry for the mess young man”, he said, pointing to the blood-soaked shirt. He clumsily plonked the head onto the bare neck, and led Tarun to a mirror at the other end of the room.

Tarun saw his hair. It looked a lot like the VP’s hairdo.

“Can’t let you have that hairdo my boy..not as long as I’m still the VP”, Ashok chuckled. Just then a man with a machine came over and gave Tarun a neat Mohawk look.

“Why Sir”, asked Tarun after making sure his head was right back where it belonged, and he could move it perfectly,”what was all this for?”

“We’re all Jha’s here”

“Huh?”

Ashok whispered into Tarun’s bloodied ears….

P.S. – Scripted In Complete Sanity…..

Took a full 4 days to type this piece of shit…typing using two fingers and one eye ain’t easy. The concept took more than 7 months though. Had this idea since a long time but didn’t know how to weave a plot around it. Glad I’m done with it finally.

WAJOOD - A DESPERATE POST

Okay, was really desperate to post something on V-Day! Two days late, I know..but then what the heck? This aint even a fresh post. Its almost 3 years old, written sometime in mid-2006. Never wanted to post this ever, but the reason I didn't want to post it doesn't hold any significance anymore...I think...

So here goes...

Kyun Dil Ke Is Nagar Mein
Hai Kabza Kisi Aur Ka?
Kyun Neend Hai Meri Khud Ki
Par Sapna Kisi Aur Ka?

Kyun Khud Ki Saji Mehfil Mein
Chaahun Saath Kisi Aur Ka?
Kyun Zindagi Ki Dhoop Mein
Chaahun Saaya Kisi Aur Ka?

Duaon Mein Bhi Meri
Kyun Hai Naam Kisi Aur Ka?
Kyun Aaine Mein Meri
Hai Aks Kisi Aur Ka?

Khud Pe Kaabu Na Raha
Hai Aalam Ab Kuch Aisa
Zindagi Khud Ki na Rahi
Wajood Ho Gaya Kisi Aur Ka !!

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!!!

RANDOM RAMBLINGS

Finally blogging after some a few weeks rest. Had an accident on Jan 5. Was playing football with a few classmates. Scored a hat-trick to bring my team from 0-3 down to a lead of 4-3...to make it short, I was having real fun. And then it happened. A group was playing cricket on the same ground...the batsman went full-throttle with his shot and I was running in the direction of the shot (not knowing what was coming, of course)...and thwack!!!! The ball came hard, straight onto my left eye. Couldn't see a thing when I opened my eye after a painful struggle. A visit to the doc revealed that my retina was damaged and that there was a blood clot...but thankfully, the retina specialist that the doc guided me to told me that surgery wasn't required, and that I would recover after a month or two...or maybe four..but I would definitely be able to see again.

Man!!! I can't tell how how scared I was when I first couldn't see anything...its SHIT Scary!!!

My birthday was on the 9th, and I missed college. I thought this was gonna be the most boring birthday of my life, but buddies turned up home after college...it was lovely!! Had a blast!

Started going back to college yesterday. It aint easy, with right lights hitting you straight in the eye. But its better than staring at the celing :P

Was a lil upset today...its not a nice feeling when your friends have a split among themselves...for a reason involving you...then fight over you....and then put you in a position where you'd have to choose between them.

I wish for harmony again....

A distant memory hollers out to me and reminds me of a resolution I once made.......of not making new friends ever again...

I don't wanna choose!!!

Damn!!

RESOLUTIONS FOR 2009

Another year has passed since I last made "New Year's Resolutions". And watched them all being broken shamelessly :P. Spent New Year's Eve sleeping...exactly the way I wanted to spend it :P. I so HATE parties.

Okay, so my Resolutions for the year 2009, many of em(almost all of em :P) carried forward from the previous year. Pardon me for sounding like an accountant :p
  1. I resolve to get rid of all my scalp hair in phases. I have no hopes now of salvaging my thinning mane. Better to look like Amrish Puri than to look like Rajat Sharma.
  2. No more poems. Atleast for this year. I laugh at them whenever I read em now :P
  3. People say I bob my head a lot while speaking. F**king shit, got to get rid of it!
  4. I shall not give too much importance to people who don't deserve it. Tuhis one is not gonna be as difficult as it was the last year :d
  5. I shall learn to dance. Brought-forward item. Told ya you'll be seeing this in my next Resolution List.:p
  6. But this time I'm desperate, coz I'm the Best Man for my cousin's wedding on Jan 31st. Scary :O
  7. Got to learn atleast one musical instrument. Didn't happen the last year. Damn!!
  8. I've got to learn to say "NO" to people. Even if I have to be rude! I'm Serious!
  9. I Resolve not to beg people to visit my blog.....
HELL!! NO WAY!!

There, I've cancelled a Resolution already :P

WISH YOU ALL A VERY HAPPY 2009!!!

ACID RAIN

Beads of sweat trickled down Sakpal's brows. He and three others carried the frame holding the body briskly through once-fertile barren fields. But the burden of a son's corpse can't be lightened by a few more shoulders.
None of them chanted. They probably realised the futility. Prayers hadn't gotten them rain since fifteen months now.
People here were dying either because of thirst, or by famine. Those who couldn't take the pain committed suicide.
The sweltering heat had claimed yet another victim, this time within Sakpal's family. Ganu was his only son. He was merely eight.
But Sakpal didn't cry. He only mumbled curses under his breath. He didn't fear DIVINE wrath anymore. He was certain HE wasn't listening.
Getting the wood and the shroud for the cremation was quite a struggle. Even while his son's body lay out in the open, ravaged by flies, he ran a few errands for the Sarpanch to raise money, when his pleas for a loan fell on deaf ears. But he didn't blame the Sarpanch. The Sarpanch atleast responded with a refusal.......his God, though, never said a thing.
Sakpal had dreams for his son. He had sent him to school, where kids of the 'better-offs' studied. Other poor farmers laughed at his "folly" and taunted him. But he wanted his son to have an education, and probably get a job in the city. Ganu would have taken them out of this village, to some place far away, where life would be better. Some place where God listened better. This village once had fields. Everyone produced something. And everyone was content. Not anymore. It hardly rained since the last year and a half. If at all it did rain, it would only be for an hour one day, and then nothing. The rain gods were teasing them it seemed.
His dream now lay motionless on his shoulder, dry, fly-infested, and slowly rotting. Ready to be consumed by a pyre. He felt uneasy. His head reeled. His loss was probably only now beginning to sink in.
They reached the crematorium grounds. As directed by the priest, the wood was arranged.
The body was laid on top of the heap.
Prayers were offered.
The corpse was walked around.
The pot was dropped.
The torch was lit.
But then it happened.
Betrayal......
Sakpal wailed out in anger.
The others joined him in angry protest.
Because, as if to add insult to injury and deny a dead child his due passage to a 'better life'....
.

.....
......IT RAINED!
